Ohio Works First (OWF) provides time-limited cash assistance to eligible families for up to 36 months.  After 36 months, families are ineligible for additional payments unless the CDJFS approves an extension of benefits through hardship or good cause.  Ohio Works First payments are through the Federal TANF Program (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families).

Eligibility requirements include: a minor child in an assistance group or a woman in her third trimester of pregnancy.

Children must reside with a parent, specified relative, legal guardian or legal custodian.

Unmarried minor parents and pregnant minors must be in an approved adult-supervised home or live with a parent, legal guardian, specified relative or legal custodian.

Adults and minor head-of-households who apply for or receive cash benefits must enter into a self-sufficiency contract.

OWF orientation is held every Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the agency.

Through work activities, participants are provided with assistance in becoming  job-ready, obtaining job skills to improve their employability and leading them to self-sufficiency.
